Stories
Size limit: 3000 words
We want bold stories told with poetic precision. Show us the world in ways we haven’t yet seen it, in no more than 3000 words. We’re interested in unpublished stories, not reprints, though we will consider new translations of stories not widely available in English (all rights are the responsibility of the translator). Simultaneous submissions are fine, but multiple submissions will be deleted unread. After you hear from us about one story, please wait at least a couple of months before sending another submission so we have time to read other writers’ work, too. (Really. We're serious about this. Back-to-back submissions are a little overwhelming, and don't work in your favor.) Also, please double space your submissions, and use a sensible font—we'd rather your fiction make us ache in our hearts than our eyes.
Also, because there has been some confusion on this, submissions should not be sent to our monthly Writer In Residence. They're here to share their own work, and don't participate in our regular submissions and editorial process.
